Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be VAT registered to issue a VAT invoice?

Yes. Only VAT-registered businesses can charge VAT and issue VAT invoices. If you are not registered, issue a normal invoice with no VAT.

What VAT rates can I use?

Standard 20%, reduced 5% and zero 0% are available per line. Check which rate applies to your goods or services on GOV.UK.

What is the reverse charge?

For certain supplies (for example some construction services) the customer accounts for the VAT. Tick the option and the invoice shows no VAT with the required wording.
